The Indiana Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) presented the Green Venue of the Year award to University Place on June 29 at the organization’s annual Award’s Night.
Since University place received the award in 2010, the venue continued to enhance its eco-friendliness, both structurally and within daily operations. Green Team Leader Jane Whisman has led sustainable staff efforts that include updating all guestrooms with energy-saving compact bulbs, implementing recycling throughout the building and starting a guestroom linen reuse program to reduce waste water.
Chef Dan Noble always has “green” on the brain, paying close attention to creativity and sustainability with his dishes. Chancellor’s restaurant and Our Den Sports Bar, both within the hotel, feature Noble’s “eat local” program, which introduces menus featuring produce from the local harvest. His “eat local cookbook” is sold in Artisans, the hotel’s gift shop. The earthy store features gifts made from recycled materials and even some made by local artisans.
Up next on the University Place’s to-do list? Advancing these eco-friendly efforts to 2012!
