Summer 2012 is definitely the summer for great parties! Not only is there Father’s Day to look forward to, but you can’t forget Independence Day on July 4th! Check out these five great summer party ideas for the hottest season of the year!

1. Celebrate the little things!
The months of June, July and August are filled with national holidays that are often ignored when they should be recognized and easily turned into a fun party! For example, June 18th is National Splurge Day. Why not get a group of girlfriends together and have a spa day, complete with cocktails and plenty of relaxation? (Why can’t everyday be National Splurge Day?!)
2. BBQ like a Boss!

Now you can finally indulge in that juicy cheeseburger or yummy brat you’ve been craving all winter! Take the party to your local park or grill out in your own backyard. Not too sure of your grilling skills? Head on over to a country club like The Hawthorns or Prairie View Golf Club and leave the burger flipping to the experts while you work on your backstroke in the pool!

3. Take it outside!

Blistering winds and snow flurries had us banished to our living rooms for the brutal winter months, but now that the spring has sprung, get outside and enjoy nature! Turn your summer party into an outdoor party by going to your local park or simply biking down the Monon and meeting up with a group of friends in Broad Ripple for a night of drinks and dancing. (Did anyone say karaoke?)

4. Rediscover Indy

Indianapolis is filled with exciting things going on all the time! Check out the weekend section in the IndyStar or go online to find the hottest places to spend your summer nights in Naptown! There are tons of concerts that will be coming to Indy this summer as well, no matter what your taste in music is! Whether you enjoy local jazz musicians, or big name stars like Dave Matthews Band, Indy has it! (And remember, if you’re a music lover, there’s no reason your outdoor party at home can’t involve a taste of music with a Rock Band or Guitar Hero concert series or speed elimination round based on score!)

5. Relax!

Summertime is all about vacationing and enjoying the time with your family while your kids are out of school for a few short months. Take this time to not only throw an awesome summer bash, but also to just sit back and have some good ole’ family time with the ones you love most! Do this by planning to go on a tropical vacation with your loved ones or by staying in Indianapolis and cheering on the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field!
